Magic Woods is a group exhibition inside Sometimes Gallery and across the forested hillside of Rattlesnake Mountain in Wassaic, NY. Named for the children’s storytelling podcast, the show draws on fable logic, with talking, shape-shifting animals, time travel, memory-filled objects, and wandering as a way of knowing, treating the forest with equal parts wonder and danger.
Works include horses with cat heads, nostalgic paintings of unreal flowers, and a life sized fighter jet in pieces, among other constructed worlds by the 13 artists in the exhibition. Moving between gallery and landscape, Magic Woods invites visitors to reimagine their relationship to place, story, and one another, finding magic through attention, presence, and connection.
